Shisa Nyama is a Zulu phrase that means to burn meat. But, this well-known Sunday tradition is more than just a buy-and-braai, it’s about keeping the community spirit alive and staying connected in social style. All you need is some good cuts of meat, spices, delicious sides and friends.
Ingredients
Spice Mix
- 10 ml (2 t) salt
- 2.5 ml chili powder
- 2.5 ml ground cumin
- 5 ml (1 t) black pepper
- 5 ml (1 t) cayenne pepper
- 5 ml (1 t) dried oreganum
Braai meat
- 4 x beef chuck chops, or similar
- 4 x lamb braai chops, or similar
- Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Mild & Spicy, warmed
To serve:
- Spicy pap bake
- Roosterkoek
Method
- To make the spice mix, measure out all of the ingredients and mix well.
- Generously season the braai meat with the spice.
- Braai to liking and serve with Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Mild & Spicy and fresh baked bread or suggested side dish
